ART BASEL — MEET THE COLLECTOR
Purat ‘Chang’ Osathanugrah is the founding chairman of Dib Bangkok, a private museum dedicated to contemporary art in Thailand’s capital. Following the vision of his father, Thai businessman and collector Petch Osathanugrah, he continues the family’s commitment to art and cultural patronage. Conceived as both a public-facing institution and a long-term commitment to artists, the museum reflects Chang’s belief in sustained support, cross-generational dialogue, and international exchange.
‘Here at Dib Bangkok,’ he says, ‘we are committed to cultivating new audiences. The museum balances a personal dream with a public mission so that everyone can experience and enjoy art.’ The collection brings together significant works by Thai artists, including Rirkrit Tiravanija, Pinaree Sanpitak, and Kawita Vatanajyankur, alongside global figures such as James Turrell, Rebecca Horn, and Alicja Kwade.
Designed by architect Kulapat Yantrasast, the building allows the works to unfold in dialogue with light, material, and scale. ‘One of the museum’s missions is to conserve and preserve these works, and to tell their stories so that our voices can be remembered. The museum reconnects Thai audiences with their roots,’ Chang adds.
